As a Los Angeles wedding photographer, I’m lucky enough to witness love stories of all shapes and sizes. From the glam of city rooftops to beaches and cozy backyard elopements. Every once in a while, though, a wedding comes along that feels like the perfect blend of adventure, intimacy, and pure heart. Haley and Hunter’s intimate riverfront wedding in Northern Colorado was exactly that. It was cozy, fun, intimate, and filled with so many amazing, joyful, teary-eyed moments I’ll never forget.
Set against the backdrop of the Yampa River at Aurum Food & Wine in Steamboat Springs, this celebration was all about connection, community, and creating a relaxed weekend that reflected who they are.
Although I’m based in Los Angeles, I travel often for destination weddings, and Steamboat Springs felt like the perfect match for Haley and Hunter. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, this charming ski town brings that perfect blend of wild beauty that feels romantic without trying too hard.
Aurum Food & Wine was the perfect wedding venue for Haley and Hunter’s wedding. It offers a laid-back, elevated, and rustic look with a hint of modern touches. Aurum is known for its chef-driven cuisine and cozy-yet-refined vibe. Imagine curated cocktails, creative bites, and a reception dinner that felt more like a warm dinner party than a traditional wedding. 10/10 would recommend for couples looking for a destination wedding venue that feels luxurious without the fuss.
Let’s talk about intimate weddings for a second—because if you’re reading this and debating whether to go big or keep it small, let me just say: I am Team Intimate All. The. Way.
Haley and Hunter’s wedding was small and intimate and nothing short of magic. There was no rushing around. No giant timelines. Just time to connect. With fewer people, there was space to truly see each other, hug longer, laugh harder, and dance without holding back.
From a photographer’s perspective, intimate weddings are a dream. The emotions are so palpable. The details are more intentional. It’s less about putting on a show and more about crafting an experience that reflects you as a couple.
And honestly? In a world that often pressures couples to go big or go broke, there’s something radical and beautiful about choosing intimacy over expectation.
The night before, we kicked things off with a rehearsal dinner at O’Neil’s Tavern and Grill, and it was a total vibe. Think: string lights overhead, juicy burgers, craft beers, and a casual energy that made everyone feel like family. It was the kind of night where people were swapping stories, toasting the couple, and easing into the weekend with genuine excitement.
As a photographer, I love it when couples opt for a rehearsal dinner or welcome party. It lets me get to know your crew, scope out the dynamics, and capture those early-in-the-weekend moments that are just as special as the ceremony.
Can we take a moment to talk about the florals? Because holy wow, Wild Hare Floral absolutely understood the assignment. The bouquet was a stunning mix of vibrant pinks, purples, greenery, and texture. It had this slightly wild, just-picked-from-a-mountain-garden vibe that perfectly matched the energy of the day.
Floral installations at the ceremony site and reception were equally jaw-dropping. Playful yet elegant, full of personality, and totally in sync with the natural surroundings. It was like the flowers were telling a story of their own.
Haley and Hunter are the kind of couple that reminds you why you do what you do. Unapologetically themselves, joyful, and rooted in authenticity. Their wedding wasn’t about tradition for tradition’s sake; it was about crafting a day that felt true to them. A wedding that honored their story and their people.
Haley and Hunter’s wedding was a reminder that the best weddings aren’t the biggest or the fanciest, they’re the ones that feel most like you. Whether that’s a cozy dinner party on the river, a taco truck in your backyard, or a mountaintop elopement with just your dog and your vows, I’m here for it.
So if you’re looking for a Los Angeles wedding photographer who’s queer-friendly, loves a good cry during the vows, and is obsessed with capturing every little piece of your love story, I’d love to hear from you.
